GRINDSTONE 2012
Our new Grindstone flyer is done! We will post it here for you to print within a couple days. If you would like one in the mail in the meantime, please email me at cookie@oakhurstequine.com or give us a call at 503-544-0227.
Grindstone is proving us with all kinds of excitement as we head toward our 2012 breeding season this year! Grindstone's son FRUMIOUS has laid claim to being 'the fastest horse in the west' as he crushed his foes in the Grade-2 Palos Verde Stakes on January 21st at Santa Anita.
In addition Grindstone is proving his value as a broodmare sire with grandson RUSSIAN GREEK's win in the $100,000 California Derby on January 14th. Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said this horse will run in the El Camino Real Derby!
Grindstone is the most accomplished sire in the Northwest. He leads all NW stallions in the categories that matter most. He leads all other NW sires by Average Earnings per Starter, by Average Earning Index (AEI) and in number of Black-type and Graded-Stakes Winners, and in percentage of offspring that have earned over $100,000. (More details in our 2012 Grindstone Brochure).
DARE TO DREAM with us! Breed your mare to GRINDSTONE and you might just get the next big horse that Grindstone has proven he can sire! |

OCTOBER NEWS
Jack and I recently returned from a wonderful time on the East Coast! We had a chance to visit our son Adam, his wife Amy and daughter Mackenzie in North Carolina. Adams recovery from his moto-cross accident May 15, 2010 grows more remarkable each day! Adam is living home with his family and goes to out-therapy during the week. We shared some wonderful memories during our time together, visiting their friends, church, a local fair, one of Adams favorite restaurants Peak City Grill (see note on Bleu Cheese Chips below) in Apex, and a poultry farm to check out some new chicken breeds! Amy says Adam should be able to travel to see us for the holidays this year. We cant wait, what a treat to have them all here for Christmas!
Jack in the Cotton Fields of Virginia!
We also attended the Northeast Equine Practitioners Meeting in Norfolk, Virginia focusing on the lameness and diagnostic ultrasound wet labs and lectures. We were really impressed with the quality of speakers and organization of the group. Ultrasound is used for the evaluation of soft tissue structures of the horse and a very effective tool to help with diagnosing structures that cannot be examined via radiographs. Available through our practice and affordable. Call to visit more about this. Jack always loves his continuing education programs and the opportunity to bring more back to his practice and to you!
Outside our hotel room at the Norfolk Vet Meeting!
Also this month, Portland Meadows Racing Season begins Monday October 17th. First group of horses head to post at 12:00 pm! Visit www.portlandmeadows.com for more information, events, and race dates.
Now a note about one of Peak City Grills specialties! Bleu Cheese Chips! Once you have them you never forget them! I dont have their exact recipe but the chef does share ingredients! First of all they make their own homemade potato chips. Then across the top pour a warm gorgonzola sauce, drizzle on warm red sweet pepper jelly, finish with sprinkles of blue cheese crumbles and green onion. This is fabulous! If you dont want to make your own chips there are some very good varieties of chips (Kettle, etc) at the store you can pick up. You can look up a gorgonzola sauce on the internet, and the rest is pretty simple. Though I have not duplicated Peak City Grills concoction exactly, I have come close and everyone here raves about them. This is really good!
